What is counselling?

Emotional problems and stress can affect anyone at any time. You may need help to understand how past experiences and worries about the future or lack of confidence may be affecting your life. Emotional issues can also seep into your family life impacting not only adults, but also young people.
Children’s feelings have an impact on their daily functioning, including their behaviour, productivity, and creative expression. This can cause turmoil or concerns both within a family setting, as well as, at school. We want to support you and your child to enhance their emotional health to support them to become their best selves

Our Role

The task of the counsellor is to provide the opportunity for you to explore, discover and clarify ways of living a more satisfying, and resourceful life. The counsellor is to provide a safe, non-judgemental, and confidential environment for growth in the client. Together, the counsellor and client can reflect on how you respond to life events, and the way you relate to yourself and others. The counsellor would not tell you what to do or give advice but will help you make your own choices.

Why People Seek Counselling

People seek counselling because there is some area of their life that concerns them, and they often become aware that despite their best efforts they are unable to change things for themselves. It is at
this moment that they may turn to someone they do not know to hear them understand themselves and their problems better.

Professional Standards

As members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I adhere to the BACP ethical framework for good practice. We undertake regular supervision which helps ensure
therapeutic standards are maintained. All clients are entitled to good standards of practice and care from their practitioners in counselling and psychotherapy. Good quality of care requires competently delivered services that meet the client’s needs by practitioners who are appropriately supported and accountable.
